Have you read the Death of A Salesman? It is the depiction of the life of a salesman, Willie Loman, who for years has been waiting for that “big break” that would enable him to make a name for himself and also to amass wealth but until the end of the novel he is penniless. He is deep in debt and his only recourse was to stage his own death to make it look like an accident so that his widow can receive his insurance money and at least for a little time experience the comfort that money can bring. If Willie was in the United Kingdom he need not have to go through the bother of staging his death to look like an accident. The mere death of a spouse entitles a citizen to bereavement benefits. She will receive a one-time tax-free sum payment of £2,000. The only requisites are that she becomes a widow on or after 9 April 2001 and that the claim must be filed within twelve months from the spouse’s death.
